Santa Martha Saltpans

A truly unique place, far away from the crowds and noise of everyday island-life.

This tour takes you into one of the island's calmest natural areas. We launch from a small local harbor and paddle across peaceful waters, gliding quietly along the mangroves.

Old Curaçao plantation houses overlook the historic salt pans. Also beneath the clear shallow water, traces of history can still be seen. While paddling, we keep an eye out for the old slave walls, still visible just below the surface — silent reminders of Curaçao's past.

Seabirds like the impressive Osprey carrying fresh catch overhead, parading flamingos, resting pelicans and sea turtles surfacing beside the kayaks are all common sights here. We even might see the spectacle of a frigatebird pulling aerial stunts trying to steal the fresh catch from an Osprey.

When the sea conditions allow it, we paddle through the boka — the narrow outlet to the open sea — and continue onto the crystal-blue Caribbean waters a bit to experience the amazing view of the rugged coastline from sea.
